CATPart is the extension of the filename on disk for CATIA V5 Part files. They will usually contain 3D geometry, a feature tree, a thumbnail image in JPEG format, a facetted preview in CGR format. Due to geometry CATPart are usually large file and can reach easily 50 megs.
CAD Files
Very large CATPart files are often results of migration from CATIA V4 .model files. Since V4 could use only chain of polynomial patches, large and complex surface models are converted into large set of surfaces. If you face difficulties translating very large CATPart files (200 megs and more) suspect that you are in this situation. Also if the filename is very long this will be a second indication. The best is to ask if there is a possibility to obtain the file in its original V4 format (in .model). The translation will be much faster and the quality better.
